Description

offered is a rare original WW1 German Guard pickelhaube. missing the spike, chinstrap is separated, missing ends, and has a few scales loose on the attached end. both visors thread has separated, but the original leather liner is remarkably complete, even the leather drawstring is whole. named to the original owner, "Stein", a one year volunteer in the 2nd batallion.
"2. reitd. Batt." stands for 2nd mounted or riding Batterie. "reitd" being an abbrieviation for "reitende" which means riding or mounted. based on this, the missing top spike is not in the shape of a spike but should be a round ball like you would see on artillery pickelhaubes.
a very rare and desirable helmet with loads of history that will make a great addition to your helmet collection.
