    Description

Offered here is a rarely seen completely refurbished
Stubbins Model Normandy 8 Grenadilla wood Bb clarinet
. For a short period of time, the Leblanc Co. produced Stubbins model clarinets. The resitone models were built in Kenosha, WI with the Vito brand on them. The wood models were produced in the French factory. Most of these were labeled Noblet, but a very few were built using the Normandy bodies. This is one of the Normandys.
This clarinet has been completely disassembled and oiled inside and out. Then each key was hand buffed and new pads were installed using 3 mm, double skinned pads, and then reassembled. After reassembly, the instrument was play tested and adjusted to attain its maximum playing potential.
These models featured one extra tone hole (under the register key - see photo 6) which only vents on throat tone Bb. This allows the clarinet to speak more clearly and in tune on this otherwise finicky note. The model was discontinued, however, due to prolonged law suits between Leblanc and Selmer over the rights to the design. (We are all the losers in that suit.)
The instrument is being sold with:
1 - Sumner Accusticut #3 mouthpiece (used in very good condition)
1 - metal ligature (used in good condition)
1 - plastic mouthpiece cap (used in good condition)
1 - Tube of cork grease (new)
1 - light weight back pack case by Kase (used but in good condition)
I am a retired music teacher and professional woodwind performer with over 60 years experience. Since my retirement from teaching, I have maintained an active schedule as a performer and have set about to find good quality clarinets (once in a while a flute) in need of repair, which I get back into as good a condition as possible and then get them into the hands of someone who will use it well. These old Normandys are far superior to all of the new plastic models and to many, if not most of the more expensive wood models on the market today. Why settle for an inferior plastic clarinet when for less money you can have a beautiful wood instrument. My prices cover my costs (most of the time). This was my first time working on a Stubbins model and I'm very excited about how it turned out.
I offer instruments which I am proud to sell and you'll be proud to own.
One of my favorite reviews here is, "I came as a customer and left as a friend." If you are not happy with your purchase for any reason, simply return it.
